The BBVA Open Platform team is gearing up for Money 20/20 in Las Vegas next week! We’re excited for the amazing lineup of speakers, inspired conversations with industry leaders, the energy of thousands of entrepreneurs revolutionizing money, and maybe a few hands of blackjack thrown in.

Our team of financial technology pioneers share what they are most looking forward to during Money 20/20 and impart sage wisdom on buzz worthy topics to keep on your radar.

Susan French – Head of Product

What are you looking forward to at Money 20/20?

Watching the hackathon presentations to see the clever applications that can be built with APIs in only a day, assessing how far the API Economy has progressed among the other banks and financial services companies in attendance and checking out the Payments & Platforms and the FinTech Revolution sessions. I’m also looking forward to hearing updates from some of our favorite vendors about their product roadmaps. Most importantly, I’m excited to talk with other attendees about how our Banking as a Service APIs can help them build, grow or transform their businesses.

Which topics are you looking forward to discussing and which do you think will be buzz-worthy?

Anything related to Open APIs and Banking as a Service, faster payments and alternative payment rails, payments and the on-demand economy. Less fun but equally important topics are regulation and RegTech and whether digital identity is finally coming into its own as a ubiquitous, broadly scalable concept.

Brent Baker – Global Head of Growth and Operations

What are you looking forward to at Money 20/20?

I’m excited to meet new prospects at Money 20/20. When we attended last year, we hadn’t even launched BBVA Open Platform in production, so we were looking for earlier stage companies to join our beta class to help us prove out and QA the APIs. Now, there is significantly more awareness of Open Platform in the market, so I’m looking forward to having conversations with more established companies about pilot use cases that may develop into more robust relationships. Money 20/20 is a great place for these conversations because so many prospects are in one place at the same time, so you learn what messaging is resonating in the market over two to three days rather than having the equivalent number of conversations in two to three weeks.

Which topics are you looking forward to discussing and which do you think will be buzz-worthy?

I lead sales, so I’m all about what’s being discussed on the sidelines, rather than in the conference sessions themselves. I’m interested in hearing how prospects utilize the technology that is highlighted at the conference to make it easier for their customers to manage their finances, whether they are a commercial enterprise or a consumer. I’m also interested in how prospects create simpler and/or more engaging user experiences. I’m a big fan of John Hope Bryant’s work at Operation Hope and I’m happy to attend a conference that prominently includes discussions of how to utilize technology to advance financial inclusion. I’m also looking forward to hearing prospects’ reactions to our newly launched debit push payment feature in Move Money.

What are you looking forward to at Money 20/20?

I like to geek out on just about everything, so having some of the world’s most brilliant and inventive minds gather to discuss the future of money is heaven. I’ll definitely be catching Shivani Siroya on her morning panel as well as talks in the Fintech for Good track to hear about developments in financial inclusion, a passion of mine. I’m also looking forward to exploring how the larger conversations around open banking, blockchain and digital currencies have changed since last year.

Which topics are you looking forward to discussing and which do you think will be buzz-worthy?

Open banking and the platform economy come to mind first. It’s great to see so many companies in attendance outside of traditionally defined finance and tech. I think this will foster deeper conversations around platformization and non-banks taking on bank-like functions to better serve consumers. Given developments over the past year I also expect fintech environments in US vs Europe vs Asia will be a hot topic. These are hunches, however I’m most excited about having conversations with peers from across industries and geographies to learn more about what’s top of mind for entrepreneurs and companies.

Message us to set up meetings with our team at the event. We’ll see you out there!
